The Vikram Cement Division is a big part of life here in Khore. If you live in this district, you probably know someone who works at the plant or drives one of the many trucks that line up along the road every morning. It is a massive operation, but when you are on the ground like us, it feels more like a small town. Everything is covered in a thin layer of grey dust, from the leaves on the trees to the bumpers of the motorbikes parked outside the gate. We spend our shifts monitoring the equipment and making sure the bags are stacked right so they do not fall over during transit. The sun gets really intense over the open yards, so we keep plenty of water nearby. It is not the kind of job where you wear a suit; you come home with dirty boots and tired shoulders every single evening. Sometimes the power goes out or a belt breaks, and we all have to scramble to get things moving again. There is a sense of pride in just getting the job done without any fuss. We do not spend time on mission statements or corporate speeches. We just focus on the tally sheets and the mechanical sounds of the plant. It is honest, heavy work that feels meaningful when you see the buildings going up using the stuff we loaded.
