Banamali Barik (Junior) College

Our college is located in Adakata, which is in the Nayagarh area. It is a quiet spot mostly, away from the really big city noise. We mainly look after students who have finished their 10th standard and need to do their plus-two years. The college is run by a small group of us who handle everything from the admissions to the accounts. We have a few rows of benches in each room and the blackboards are getting a bit old now, but they still work fine for the lectures. You can see the trees from the windows, which is nice during the rainy season. Most of the students walk here or come on their cycles from the nearby villages. We don't have a big canteen, so most kids bring their own tiffin boxes and eat together under the shade outside. Things move a bit slowly here compared to the colleges in the bigger towns, but we prefer it that way. Registration time is always a bit of a mess with all the papers piled up on the desks, but we get through it eventually. We don't spend money on fancy brochures or advertisements because everyone in Adakata already knows where we are. It’s just a simple place for young people to study and get their certificates before they move on to bigger things. We try to keep the fees reasonable so the local families can afford it without too much trouble.
