Vidad Engineering & Electricals is right at the Mahadev Nagar corner, not too far from the Mahindra Circle on Trimbak Road. Being in Satpur means we are surrounded by a lot of workshops and big factories. It’s always noisy with the sound of trucks and machinery, but you get used to it after a week or two. I remember when we first moved in, the floor was just bare concrete. We’ve added some racks since then to keep the electrical components from getting mixed up. It’s mostly me and a couple of guys who know their way around a circuit. We get people coming in from the nearby plants looking for specific parts that broke down mid-shift. It’s usually a rush. We don’t have a big front desk or a waiting room. You just come in through the main door and we talk across the counter. The air always smells a bit like grease and warm metal, which is normal for this part of town. Sometimes we run out of the common stuff and have to wait for the truck from Mumbai. We’ve had some long nights here when a big order needs to be packed. It isn’t glamorous work, but it keeps the lights on and the machines running for the neighbors. We stay busy enough and try to keep the coffee pot full for the long afternoons.
