Jivan Hair Cutting Saloon

Down here on Old Saikheda Road, things move at their own pace. We are right in Sadguru Nagar 2, which is a busy little corner of Nashik. The shop is Jivan Hair Cutting Saloon and it's been sitting here on Jail Road for quite some time. You can hear the traffic from the main road all day long. I usually start the day by sharpening the razors and making sure the water is ready. The 422101 area has a lot of working men who just want a quick trim without any fuss. We have two chairs and a bench for waiting. It gets a bit cramped when three or four people are inside at once, especially when it's raining outside. The walls are painted a light color, but they could probably use a new coat soon. I don’t mind. People come for the haircut, not the paint. Sadguru Nagar is a good neighborhood. Everyone knows each other. Sometimes a kid comes in for his first haircut and makes a lot of noise, but we get through it. I keep a radio playing in the corner, mostly just news or some old songs. It fills the space when nobody is talking. By the time evening rolls around, the floor is covered in hair and I have to sweep it all out for the last time. It’s a simple life running a saloon in Nashik. We are just part of the local street and we like it that way.
