Vijaya Kumar Rice Mill

Running the Vijaya Kumar Rice Mill on Dharapuram Road keeps us busy from early morning until the sun goes down. We are located at No:5/160 and most people around here know the sound of our hullers. It gets quite dusty inside when we are processing the paddy but that is just part of the job. Farmers bring their loads on tractors or small carts and we weigh everything out. Some days the machines act up a bit and we have to spend time fixing a belt or greasing the parts to keep things moving. We have been at this spot for a while now. The road outside has gotten much busier over the years with more trucks passing through to Dharapuram. We just handle the grain and make sure it is cleaned and polished the way the customers expect. It is not an easy job and your clothes always end up smelling like raw rice and husks by the end of the shift. We don't have a big office or anything, just a small desk where we keep the records and handle the payments. Sometimes the power goes out and everything stops, so we just sit outside for a bit until it comes back on. It is a simple life and we know most of the people who come through our gates. We just try to do the work and get the rice back to the families who need it.
