V A Modern Rice Mill

Our mill is located at 37, Salem Road, right in the Thiyadurgam area. If you are driving down that way, you can’t miss the smell of toasted grain when we are in the middle of a big run. It’s a large property, but most of it is taken up by the storage sheds and the area where we park the vehicles. We have been operating here for a good bit now, and the equipment has some wear and tear, but it still gets the job done. The staff is mostly local people from Thiyadurgam who know their way around a rice mill. We don’t have much of a front office, just a small room with a wooden table and a few plastic chairs for when people come to settle their accounts. Most of our day is spent out on the floor, keeping an eye on the rollers and making sure the husk is being cleared away properly. It’s a loud environment, so we end up shouting to hear each other over the machines. Sometimes we have issues with the machinery and have to spend half a day fixing a belt or a motor, which can be frustrating when there’s a lot of paddy waiting. We just take it as it comes. It’s a basic operation on Salem Road, and we aren't trying to be anything other than a working mill that handles the local harvest as best as we can.
