Muthu Sugars

Muthu Sugars is situated right at 56, Velur Four Road, along Thiruvalluvar Salai. It is a very noisy spot because of all the traffic coming through the intersection. You have trucks, buses, and motorbikes zooming past at all hours. We spend most of our time dealing with bags of sugar and moving them around the warehouse space. It’s heavy work and the air usually smells a bit sweet and dusty. We don’t have any fancy air conditioning, so we just keep the big doors open to catch whatever breeze comes off the road. The address on Thiruvalluvar Salai is easy to find, which is good for the drivers who bring us the loads. We’ve had to fix the roof a few times because of the heavy rains, and the walls could probably use a new coat of paint, but it doesn’t affect the work we do. Most of us have been working here for years and we have a rhythm down for how things should move. We don’t bother with big slogans or anything like that. We just show up, unload the trucks, sort the stock, and get it back out to the buyers. It’s a straightforward business and we like it that way. If you come by, you’ll probably see us covered in a bit of dust, just trying to get the day’s work finished.
