Our mill is located at No. 3K in Nainampatty. It’s a quiet area near Bodinakenpatty, and we’ve been running the machines here for quite some time. The dust from the flour gets everywhere, so we are always sweeping up at the end of the day. It’s loud when the grinders are going, but that’s just how it is in a mill. People from around Idappadi bring their grain to us, and we grind it down for them while they wait or they come back later. We don’t have a big office or anything like that. It’s just the shed and the machinery. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to wait a bit to get started again, which can be a bit of a headache. My cousin helps out with the heavy lifting most days. We focus on getting the texture right because that’s what the local families want for their cooking. We don’t use any big fancy computers, just the old scales and our hands. The building is tucked away, so you have to look for the sign near the post office area. It is a lot of hard work, especially when it gets hot in the afternoons, but we like being part of the community here. It’s a steady life. We just keep the machines maintained and try to stay busy every week. Sometimes the neighbors bring us snacks when they drop off their wheat, which is always nice.
