Jodhi Rice Mill

Jodhi Rice Mill is at 143, S N D Road in Tiruchengode. If you walk down S N D Road, you can probably hear the machines before you see the gate. We have been milling rice here for quite some time now. The building is an old one, with high ceilings to let the heat out. During the peak season, the whole place smells like raw grain and earth. We have a few workers who have been with us for years. They know exactly how the machines sound when they need oiling. It is a lot of hard work, lifting the heavy bags and making sure the grain is moving through the huller correctly. Tiruchengode can be a busy place, and the traffic on our road gets heavy with lorries. We don't have any fancy air conditioning, just some big fans that move the dusty air around. People from the nearby villages bring their crops to us. We try to keep things moving so nobody has to wait too long. The floor is always covered in a fine layer of husk, no matter how much we sweep it. It’s a messy job but someone has to do it. We stay open late when there is a lot of paddy to finish. It’s just a regular local business where we keep our heads down and get the work done.
