You will find us out in Elaiyampalayam in Tamil Nadu. The college is a bit of a distance from the bigger towns, but that gives us plenty of room for all the workshops and labs. Since this is a polytechnic college, things are very hands-on. You won't find many people just sitting around. There is usually the sound of a machine running or students discussing a project in the hallways. Our buildings are plain and functional because we put most of our resources into the equipment the students need to learn their trades. Most of the students come from the surrounding villages and towns. They want to learn skills that will actually get them a job in a factory or a workshop. The staff here is quite down-to-earth. We don't go in for big speeches or polished presentations. We just open up early and stay until the work is finished. The canteen is the main spot where everyone gathers when it gets too hot in the afternoon. It is a simple place with a lot of old trees that provide some shade for the students during their breaks. It is a lot of hard work for everyone involved, but it feels good to see the students get the hang of a new skill. We just keep things moving and try to make sure every student gets enough time in the labs to really understand what they are doing.
