Ayyappa Rice Mill

At 142/B11, Salem Road, you will find Ayyappa Rice Mill. We are right on the side of the main highway. Salem Road is always very busy with cars and big trucks going back and forth all the time. The mill is a busy place too. We have huge stacks of heavy rice bags piled up inside. The smell of raw rice is everywhere you go in the building. It is a very specific scent that stays on your clothes. We’ve been at this location for many years now. The building is sturdy enough but it definitely shows its age if you look closely. We have the big hulling machines that make a lot of noise when they are running. You usually have to shout a bit to be heard by anyone else. We spend our days loading and unloading the bags. It keeps us fit and strong. The rice dust is something you just learn to live with after a few days. We have a small area where people can sit and wait, but most people are in a hurry to get their business done. 142/B11 is our address and we have seen the road outside change a lot since we started. There are more cars and new buildings everywhere now. We just keep doing our work. It is just us and the machines. Sometimes we take a short break under the big tree outside when it gets too hot.
