Over in Sanniyasipatti, Sankari, the air feels a bit different than in the bigger towns of Tamil Nadu. Our office for Applicomp India Ltd is right there, and it’s a pretty straightforward place. We deal with components and various technical assemblies. The building is solid, and we have 637303 as our pincode. You see a lot of trucks passing by on the main roads near here. We started this because we knew how to handle the work and there was space for us to set up. It is not a very loud office, except when the machines are running or when everyone is talking over lunch. We usually bring food from home and sit together. The work can be repetitive sometimes, but it’s what we know. We don’t have fancy slogans or big posters on the walls. It’s mostly just calendars and notes stuck to the boards. Sometimes the heat in Tamil Nadu makes the afternoon feel very long. We just drink more water and keep moving. If a machine breaks down, we fix it ourselves if we can. It’s practical work. We’ve been in this spot for a while now, and we know the local shops where we can get a quick snack or supplies. It is a regular job with regular people, just trying to stay busy and do things right. Sometimes the rain comes down hard and we have to make sure the roof isn't leaking near the equipment.
