Lavudya Prameela Flour Mill

This is the Lavudya Prameela Flour Mill. We are located in a place called Tikya Tanda. It is part of the Talla Singaram area in the Nuthankal mandal. It is just a small spot in the Nalgonda district of Telangana. Most days, I am right here grinding grain for the people who live in the tanda. You can hear the hum of the motor running from way down the road. It is a very simple setup, just the milling machine and some old sacks for the flour. People from around here bring their wheat or their dried chillies to be ground up for their cooking. It involves a lot of dust and plenty of noise, but it is a necessary thing for the village. I have lived here in this part of the country my whole life. Running a flour mill means you end up talking to almost everyone. Neighbors come in with their small bags and we chat about the weather while the machine does its work. I do not have an office or a computer to keep track of things. I just write down what I need to in a small paper book. The shop is small and it gets very hot inside during the middle of the day. I try to keep it as tidy as I can, but flour dust just gets everywhere no matter what. It is just me working here. When the power goes out, everything just stops and we wait for it to come back.
