Raj Hardware and Aluminium Trading Company is situated right near the Ram Mandir on Central Avenue Road. It’s a busy stretch of road and we get a lot of dust from the passing trucks, but it’s a good spot for a shop. We have stacks of aluminium sections and all kinds of hardware stuff piled up. It’s not the most organized looking place if you’re used to big showrooms, but we know where everything is. The smell of metal and a bit of machine oil is always in the air. People stop by on their way to the temple or while they’re doing their building work. We spend a lot of time measuring things out and cutting metal to the right size for customers. The floor is concrete and usually has some metal shavings on it by the end of the day. It gets loud when we’re moving the heavy stuff around. We have a small wooden desk where the ledger stays and where we sit to have a quick bite. It’s a local business through and through. We know the other shopkeepers on Central Avenue and we’ve been here long enough that people just say the hardware shop by the Mandir. It’s practical work and we like the direct way of doing things here. No fancy uniforms or anything, just work clothes and getting the job done for whoever walks through the door.
