You have to come up to the first floor of the GM Market in Gandhibagh to find us at Shop No 4. The market is always crowded with people and the stairs can be a bit narrow, so everyone has to be careful when they carry their bags up. Once you get inside our place, it is a world of cardboard boxes. We have medicine strips and plastic bottles stacked from the floor right up to the ceiling. It can be a bit of a maze sometimes if you don't know exactly where everything is kept on the shelves. We spend a lot of our day checking expiry dates and making sure the new stock is put away correctly in the right sections. The air is a bit cooler inside than it is out on the busy street. We have a big desk where we do all the billing and writing in the ledger. It is a lot of paperwork, keeping track of what comes in and what goes out to the customers. Gandhibagh is a loud area, but being on the first floor helps muffle some of the street noise from the rickshaws. We know many of the other shopkeepers in the market, so we often share a quick word or a tea when we are heading out for a break. The lights are bright fluorescent tubes that make everything look very sharp and clean. We have a small metal ladder that we use to reach the top shelves. It is just a steady, quiet routine.
