Vitorias

Vitorias is located right opposite the Bank of Baroda in Lalpur, Chakdaha. We are in the Nadia district and it’s a place where everyone kind of knows where everything is. There is a rice mill just across from us and you can often smell the grain in the air when the wind blows the right way. It’s a busy little spot and people are always coming and going from the bank so there is plenty of activity to watch from our front door. The building we are in is older and has some cracks in the plaster but it holds up just fine. We have some wooden counters and a few chairs for when people need to sit down for a minute. Sometimes the power goes out for a bit and we just wait it out while talking to whoever is around. It’s not a fancy place with lots of decorations or anything like that. We just have what we need to do our work and keep things moving. The street outside can get pretty muddy when it rains because the water doesn't always drain away quickly. We keep a broom by the door to sweep out the dirt that people track in on their shoes. It’s a simple way of living and working here in Lalpur. We just try to stay organized and get through the list of things to do each day before it gets dark.
