Jeevan Ice Factory

Jeevan Ice Factory is located at 22/536 on the Main Road in Akkihebbalu. We aren't really a fancy shop where you sit down; it’s more of a working factory where we make large quantities of ice. The main road is always busy with tractors and cars going past, so there is a lot of dust that we have to keep out of the workspace. Making ice sounds easy, but it takes a lot of watching the temperature and making sure the water is clean. We use big metal cans for the blocks and it is heavy work moving them around once they are frozen solid. My hands are usually cold even in the middle of summer. We supply to a lot of the local vendors and shops around Akkihebbalu who need to keep their goods chilled. It’s a noisy place because the compressors are always running to keep the brine tanks cold enough. We don't have a fancy office, just a small desk where we keep the accounts and talk to the drivers. Sometimes we have to work late into the night if there is a big order coming up the next day. It’s just a small operation run by a few of us who grew up in this area. We don’t bother with much else besides making sure the ice is ready when people need it. That's the whole routine for us here and we like it.
