At Flaunt Salon And Spa, the day usually starts with sweeping up hair from the day before and making sure the mirrors are mostly clean. We are tucked away on Kalidasa Road at the 12th Cross in V V Mohalla, which is a nice enough part of Mysore. It gets a bit hectic on weekends when everyone decides they need a haircut at the exact same time. The smell of shampoo and hair spray is always hanging in the air. We have some old magazines on the table for people waiting, but most just look at their phones while we work. The chairs have seen a lot of use over the years and the floor has a few stains that won't come out no matter how much we scrub. We are just a local team of people who know how to use scissors and combs. Sometimes the water pressure acts up or the lights flicker when the weather gets bad in Mysore, but we just keep going. It isn't like those corporate places where everything is silent and perfect. We talk to our regulars about their families and the local news while we trim their hair. It is a comfortable place where you don't have to act fancy. We just try to make sure nobody leaves with a lopsided beard or a bad dye job. It is just us doing what we know how to do.
