We are set up at Plot No. 2099 on the airport side of the Western Express Highway in Vile Parle East. If you have ever driven that way, you know how loud and busy it gets with the planes taking off and the cars rushing by. We deal in marble, and our yard is usually full of slabs that we have brought in. It is a dusty job, and we are usually wearing old clothes because there is no point in trying to stay clean around stone. We spend a lot of time walking around the plot, showing people the different grains and colors in the marble. Every piece of stone is a bit different, which is what makes it interesting I guess. We don't have a polished sales pitch. We just tell people where the stone came from and what it costs. Most of the work involves heavy lifting and making sure the slabs are stored safely so they don't chip. It is a straightforward way to make a living. We have seen the highway change a lot over the years, but the marble business stays pretty much the same. People always need good stone for their floors. We just keep our heads down and handle the daily grind of loading trucks and checking the stock we have on hand. It is hard work, but it is what we know how to do best.
