If you know Dharavi, you know 90 feet road. Umar Clinic is tucked in near Indira Qureshi Nagar and Gopinath Colony 2. We are right by Cafe Amber hotel, which is how most people describe where we are located. It’s a very lively part of town. There’s always someone walking by or a bike zooming past. Inside the clinic, it’s a bit calmer, though the sound of the street never really goes away. We serve a lot of people from the colony and the surrounding chawls. It’s a tight-knit place. Everyone knows everyone else’s business, which makes it feel like a real community. We keep things very simple inside. We have the basic medical supplies and a small desk for registration. Sometimes the electricity flickers, but we just keep going. It’s a practical place. We don’t spend money on fancy decorations because that’s not what people come here for. They come because they need someone to look at a fever or a scraped knee. We stay open late because that’s when most people get off work in Dharavi. It’s a long day for us, but seeing the neighbors every day makes it feel worth it. We’ve been part of this street for a long time now, just doing what we can. The fans hum all day long, and the waiting room is rarely empty. It's just a busy, honest little clinic on a busy street.
