Over in Mulund West at Giri Vihar, you’ll find Tarang Mukhwas tucked away on S L Road. We spend our days surrounded by the smell of fennel seeds, dried fruits, and all sorts of digestive mixes. It is a small shop, but it gets pretty cramped once you start stacking all the containers. People usually wander in after their evening meal because they want something sweet or crunchy to finish the day. We spend a lot of time mixing things by hand, trying to get the balance right so it isn't too salty or too sugary. The S L Road area is quite lively, so there is always someone looking through the window to see what is new. We don’t have a big team, just a couple of us who know where every jar is kept. Sometimes the labels get a bit crooked or we run out of the popular stuff faster than we thought. It’s a lot of scooping and weighing and chatting with neighbors who have lived in Mulund for thirty years. The shop isn't modern, it still has the old wooden counters and the floor is a bit worn down from all the foot traffic. We like it that way because it feels like home. There is always a jar open for someone to try a bit before they buy. It is just a simple way to make a living, selling things that make people feel a bit better after dinner.
