Stone Plus

Our shop is over in Vikhroli West, specifically Shop No 6 in the Babau Tambe Chawl. We’re right on the 19th Main Road in Sector 2. One of the best things about being here is the smell of fresh bread from Hamalya Bakery right across the street. It makes the mornings much better when we’re out front moving stones. The shop itself is small, so we have to be very careful about how we stack the inventory so nothing gets chipped. It’s a chawl, so space is always tight and we’re close to our neighbors. We spend a lot of time sweeping up stone dust and moving heavy pieces for customers to look at. It’s hard on the back, but it’s the business we’ve always been in. We don’t have a website or a big marketing plan; people usually just walk in because they saw the sign or heard about us from someone else in Vikhroli. I usually sit on a wooden chair by the entrance to catch whatever breeze comes down the 19th Main Road. Sometimes we have a chat with the bakery workers when things are slow. Dealing with stone is honest work, and it’s what we know how to do. The evening traffic gets pretty loud, but we just shut the doors and finish up the accounts before heading home. It’s a simple operation, just us and the slabs of stone we sell every day in this little corner of the world.
