Shri R. K. Stones

You can find us over in Chembur on the Sion-Trombay Road, not far from the old R.K. Studio. It’s a famous area, so most people don't have any trouble finding our gate. We work with different types of stones, mostly for flooring and outdoor stuff. Being in Mumbai, space is always a bit tight, so our yard is packed to the edges with slabs. We have to be really careful with the crane when we are moving things around so we don't hit the walls or the trucks. The noise from the road is constant, but you get used to it after a few days. We don't have a big fancy reception area. Usually, you’ll find one of us sitting on a stool near the entrance checking the delivery notes. It’s a family-run sort of feeling here. We know the regular drivers and the local builders by name. Some days the traffic on Sion-Trombay Road is so bad that the trucks get delayed for hours, which throws our whole schedule off. We just deal with it as it comes. We aren't trying to be the biggest or the flashiest. We just want to supply the stone that people need without a whole lot of fuss. If the weather is good, we get a lot done. If it’s monsoon, everything slows down and we spend more time drinking chai and waiting for the rain to stop.
