Shalimar Stone

Shalimar Stone is located at 1 Mulund West Chittaranjan Road, right opposite Asma Estate. If you come by this way, you’ll probably hear us before you see us because cutting and moving stone is never a quiet job. We have slabs of granite and marble leaning against the walls, and there is always a layer of fine stone dust over everything, including our clothes. It’s heavy work, and our backs usually ache by the end of the day. Chittaranjan Road is a good spot for us, and being across from Asma Estate makes it easy for people to find the shop. We’ve been in Mulund West for a long time. It’s changed a lot, with more buildings going up every year, which usually means more people looking for flooring or counter tops. We don't have a fancy showroom with bright lights. Most of our stone is kept out in the open or under a simple shed so people can see the real color in the natural light. We show people what we have, tell them the price, and that’s about it. My brother and I run the place, and we usually have a few laborers to help with the heavy lifting. It’s a grit-and-grind kind of life, but we like being part of the local trade. The tea guy visits us twice a day, and those are the best parts of the afternoon.
