Shah Granites Pvt Ltd has its office on the 3rd floor of Laxmi Bhuvan, right across from the Jain Temple in Ghatkopar West. It’s a busy part of Mumbai, so there’s always something happening outside in Sainath Nagar. We deal with stones and granites, which is heavy, dusty work, but this office is where we handle the side of things that doesn't involve a forklift. It’s a small space, unit 303, where we take orders and talk to people about what they need for their kitchens or floors. Being on the third floor means we get a little bit away from the street noise, but not much. We’ve been here for a while and the building is quite familiar to us. Sometimes the elevator is slow, so we end up taking the stairs. It’s just one of those old Mumbai buildings with a lot of character. We don't have any fancy displays or a showroom here; mostly we just show samples and talk through the options. It’s a very hands-on business. Even though we are a private limited company, it feels more like a family shop. We know our regulars and they know where to find us. Dealing with granite means you have to be tough and patient, and we try to bring that to the office too. It’s just a normal workplace with people trying to get things done and making sure the customers get their stone delivered.
