Sarswati Sandwiza Corner

Our little place is in Ghatkopar East. We call it Sarswati Sandwiza Corner. I know the spelling is a bit different on the sign but that’s just how we have it. We’ve been in this part of Ghatkopar for a while now. The evenings are the busiest time for us. Once the sun starts going down, people come out for a snack. We have a few benches but most people just stand around the corner. I spend most of my time grating cheese. We go through blocks and blocks of it every night. My hands get tired from the grater but you get used to it after a few hours. The grill is always hot and the smell of toasted bread is everywhere. We don't have a huge variety of things. We just stick to what we have been making since we started. My younger brother takes the orders and I handle the making part. We have a small radio that plays in the background but usually the street noise drowns it out. Ghatkopar is a place where people really love their food, so they tell us exactly how they want things. More spice, less butter, or extra toast. We try to remember everyone's preferences if they come often. It’s just a regular local shop where we work hard and go home tired. The floor gets messy with breadcrumbs but we sweep it up.
