Our place is in the Bansilal Building on Shaikh Memon Street in Kalbadevi. If you’ve ever been to this part of Mumbai, you know how crowded it gets with all the shops and traders. We are on the seventh floor, so we at least get a bit of a view of the rooftops. We deal in stones and it’s a business we’ve been in for quite some time. The building is old and the lift doesn't always work perfectly, but it’s home for our business. We aren't fancy people. We wear regular clothes and spend our time talking to suppliers and customers. There’s a lot of paperwork in this business, more than you’d think. We don't use any marketing tricks to get people through the door. Usually, it’s just other traders or builders who know we’ve been in Kalbadevi for years. We try to keep things moving even when the streets downstairs are blocked with carts and trucks. It’s a loud, busy environment, but we like the energy of it. We don't have any grand plans to take over the world. We just want to provide decent stone to the people who ask for it. Every day is a bit different depending on what orders come in. We just take it one day at a time and do our best to stay organized in the middle of all the chaos. It’s a bit messy, but it’s how we’ve always operated in this neighborhood.
