Prakash Dall & Flour Mills

If you have ever been down to Bhat Bazar in Masjid Bundar, you know how crowded it gets. We are located on the first floor at Plot No. 262/70 on Narshi Natha Street. It is a very old building and the stairs are a bit narrow, but we have been working out of here for a while. Prakash Dall & Flour Mills is mostly about the sound of machines and the smell of fresh flour. It gets quite noisy during the day when the grinders are running. The air usually has a bit of white dust in it from the grains. We deal with different kinds of pulses and wheat. Trucks come in early in the morning to drop off bags and we have to get them up to the first floor which is a lot of work. The street outside is always blocked with handcarts and people shouting. It’s just the way things are in this part of Mumbai. We don’t have a fancy office with air conditioning. There is just a wooden desk and some ledgers where we keep track of everything. Sometimes the electricity goes out and we have to wait, but usually, we keep moving. Most of our customers are other traders from the market who have known us for years. It is a simple operation, really, just milling and packing. We stay until the market closes down for the evening.
