Prakash Chilly

Our business is located on P Mehta Road, number 42, inside the Mumbai Karachi Engineering Company building. It’s an old industrial-style building, and we have our space tucked away on the ground floor. Prakash Chilly is all about spices, and because of that, the air in our shop is always a bit sharp and makes you want to sneeze if you aren't used to it. We have big sacks of dried chillies piled up against the walls, and the floor is usually covered in a fine red dust by the afternoon. We use an old grinding machine that makes a lot of noise, but it’s reliable and has been with us for a long time. My father was the one who really got things moving here, and now we just try to keep the same standards he had. We don't have a website or any big marketing plans. People find us because they know we've been at this address for years and we don't mess around with the quality of the spice. We weigh everything out on a manual scale that uses iron weights. It’s a slow process sometimes, especially when a big order comes in, but we don't like to rush. The windows are usually kept open to let the air circulate, but you can still smell the chillies from all the way down the street. It’s just honest work that we do every day.
