Obhan Motors

Up here in Antop Hill, at Shop No 7 in Jai Bajrang Bali Nagar, space is a bit tight but we make it work. Obhan Motors is right on S M Road, and with the Barkat Ali Darga nearby, there’s always a flow of people walking past our door. We’ve been working out of this small shop for a long time. You can usually find me or one of the boys bent over a scooter or a car hood right out on the edge of the street. We don't have a big office or a place for people to sit, so customers usually just hang out at the nearby shops while we work. The humidity in Mumbai makes the tools rust if we don’t look after them, so we spend a lot of time cleaning and oiling our gear. It’s a noisy neighborhood, but we like the energy. We get all kinds of vehicles, from brand new ones to stuff that should have been scrapped years ago. We just take it as it comes. Sometimes we have to wait a few days for a specific part to arrive from the market, but we keep the vehicles safe in the meantime. It’s a simple living, and we know most of our regulars by name. We don't use any big words to describe what we do; we just fix what’s broken and move on to the next one.
