Neelam Foodland

The shelves here at Neelam Foodland in Khar West J S S Road, Shop No 5/6/7, Tana Kuttir, are pretty much packed from the floor to the ceiling. If you walk in, you’ll see rows of clear containers and bags. We’ve got a lot of different things, from nuts to dried fruits and all those little snacks people like to munch on. It can get a bit cramped when more than three or four people are browsing at once. We spend a lot of time weighing things out on the scales. It’s a repetitive job, but there’s something nice about it. You get to talk to people while you’re bagging their orders. The 17t area can be a bit tricky to navigate with all the traffic, so people usually stop in while they’re doing their other errands. We keep the place bright so everyone can see what they’re buying. Sometimes we run out of something popular and have to tell people to come back Tuesday. They usually don’t mind. We try to keep things tidy, but with so many small items, something is always rolling under a shelf. It’s just us working here, making sure the stock stays fresh. We don’t do much advertising; the shop has been in this spot long enough that most people in Khar know where we are. It’s a busy little corner of the world and we’re just happy to be in the middle of it all.
