Nanavati Hospital

Living and working around S.V. Road in Vile Parle West means you get used to the noise. Nanavati Hospital is right in the thick of it. I start my shift early when the sun is just coming up over the buildings. The traffic is already starting to crawl outside on the main road. Inside, it's a different world with the white floors and the smell of floor cleaner that never really goes away. We have so many people coming through the doors every day, some looking worried and others just here for a checkup. It’s a big place, but you get to know the regulars. Sometimes I stand by the window and watch the cars go by toward the station. It’s a lot of walking back and forth between the wards. My shoes always squeak on the tiles by the end of the day. We don't have much time for sitting around, there’s always a file to move or a phone ringing at the desk. The tea from the canteen is okay, better if you get it fresh. We try to keep things organized, but on busy Mondays, it gets a bit chaotic. People ask for directions all the time because the hallways can be a bit of a maze if you aren't used to them. It’s just a normal hospital day, really, trying to help folks get through their appointments without too much trouble and getting home to rest.
