Namdev Jagannath Sopariwala

Namdev Jagannath Sopariwala is located at 27 in the Kalbadevi area. This is one of the older parts of the city, and the streets are always packed with people, carts, and vehicles. We have been in the business of selling sopari, or betel nuts, for a very long time. It is a tradition in our family. Our shop is quite simple and doesn't have any of the modern bells and whistles you see in newer stores. We focus entirely on the product itself. The smell of the processed nuts is quite strong, and it’s something that defines our workspace. We spend many hours each day sorting through the stock to make sure it’s what our customers expect. Kalbadevi is a frantic place to work, but we are used to the noise and the constant movement. We don't have a big team of staff. It is usually just me and a couple of helpers who have been with us for years. We aren't interested in making a big corporate name for ourselves. We just want to provide a reliable product to the people and small vendors who visit us. The monsoon season is always a bit tricky because the old streets can flood, but we do our best to keep the shop dry and open. It is a humble trade that requires a lot of patience and a good knowledge of the different types of nuts. We just keep things running the old-fashioned way and take each day as it comes.
