Nair Hospital

This place is right on Dr A L Nair Road in Bombay Central. It’s actually part of the T N Medical College, so you see a lot of students running around in their white coats looking tired or rushing to class. It’s a huge campus and it’s been part of this neighborhood for a very long time. Walking through the gates, you can tell it’s an old institution. The walls have that look of a place that’s seen a lot of history. It is always crowded. Between the patients coming in from all over Mumbai and the students learning their trade, there is never a quiet moment here. You hear the sounds of the city right outside the gates, but once you’re inside, it’s its own little world. We have doctors who have been here for decades and new students who are just starting out. It’s a teaching hospital, so things work a bit differently than a private clinic. There’s a lot of paperwork and a lot of people waiting in lines. It’s just the reality of a big public hospital in the middle of Bombay. People find their way here because it’s well-known. We don't spend time making things look pretty; we just focus on the work that needs doing. The halls are long and it can be a bit confusing to navigate the different wings, but it’s a solid place with a lot of people who care about getting the job done right every single day.
