Mahavir Dhanya Bhandar

If you walk through Bhattwadi in Ghatkopar West, you will find Mahavir Dhanya Bhandar at Shop No 1. It is a grain shop, plain and simple. We have big sacks of rice, pulses, and wheat stacked up against the walls. The air usually smells like flour and burlap. It is a dusty kind of place, but that is how it goes when you deal with grains all day long. We have been serving the people around here for quite some time now. Some families have been coming to us for their kitchen supplies for years. We do not have any fancy displays or neon lights to attract people. Just the scales and the bags. We spend a lot of time weighing things out for neighbors who want a kilo of this or five kilos of that. The shop is not very big, so it gets a bit cramped when more than three people are inside at once. Usually, someone is standing out front chatting while they wait. Ghatkopar is a lively neighborhood, and we feel like a part of the local scenery. We are not trying to be the biggest shop in Mumbai. We just want to make sure the bags are full and the weights are honest for everyone. Sometimes the cat from next door comes in to sleep on a sack of lentils, and we just let it be. It is a quiet life, mostly. We open up, sweep the floor, and wait for the regulars.
