Mahaveer Marble

We have been here at the Vakola Bridge spot for quite a long time now. If you have ever driven down Nehru Road toward the highway signal in Santacruz East, you might have seen our place. It is usually quite busy with trucks coming and going. We keep a lot of different marble slabs stacked up. It gets pretty dusty, especially in the afternoons when the sun hits the stone. Most of the time, we are just moving things around or helping someone pick a piece that doesn't have too many cracks. We aren't a big fancy showroom with air conditioning and tiles on the walls. It is more of a yard where you see the raw stuff. Sometimes the traffic outside gets so loud we have to shout to be heard. We spend our days measuring pieces and loading them onto small tempos. People stop by on their way home from work to see what came in. The floors here are always white with stone dust. My hands are usually dry from handling the blocks. It’s just how it is when you work with stone every day. We don't have a big office, just a small desk in the corner with some old ledgers. It's a simple operation really. We know most of the guys who drive the delivery trucks around here. There is always a lot of heavy lifting to do.
