Mahalaxmi Marbles

You’ll find Mahalaxmi Marbles over at Plot No.-347/B on Maulana Azad Road. We are right in the thick of things near Grant Road, Chor Bazaar, and Kamathipura. It’s a very old part of Mumbai and it’s always crowded and noisy. Space is a luxury here, so our shop is packed tight with different kinds of marble and stone. My father started this business decades ago, and I’ve just kept it going. It’s an area with a lot of history, and we fit right in. We don’t have a website or anything; we just rely on people walking by or old customers sending their friends to us. The streets are narrow, so getting the slabs in and out can be a real challenge with all the handcarts and bikes. We’ve gotten pretty good at it over the years, though. It’s a no-nonsense kind of place. We show you what we have, tell you the price per square foot, and that’s it. There’s no fancy lighting or air-conditioned lounge. Just us and the stone. People come to us because they know we’ve been here forever and we aren't going anywhere. It’s a tough neighborhood to work in, but it’s home for us.
