Madanlal Ramjilal Supariwala

Kalbadevi is always a madhouse with all the traffic and people pushing past each other. We are tucked away at A-231. This business, Madanlal Ramjilal Supariwala, has been around for a very long time. It feels like the walls here have seen everything over the decades. We deal with supari and different traditional mixtures. The shop is filled with heavy sacks and metal containers. It is not very organized to look at, but we know exactly where everything is kept. My grandfather probably stood in this exact spot many years ago. We do not see any reason to do things differently just because times changed. The smell of the different nuts and spices is very strong when you walk in from the street. We spend the day weighing things out on the old scales and talking to customers who have been coming here for a long time. It is dusty and loud outside, but inside it is just business as usual. We do not have a website or any of those modern things. People just know the address by heart. Sometimes we sit on the wooden stools and drink hot chai while waiting for the next delivery truck to arrive. It is a slow process getting the right mix sometimes. Kalbadevi is a tough place to work because it is so crowded, but we would not go anywhere else. This is just what our family does. We keep it going one day at a time.
