Lilavathi Hospital

Lilavathi Hospital is situated over in Bandra West at the Bandra Reclamation area. It is a large building that most people in this part of Mumbai recognize. Being near the Reclamation means we get a lot of sea air, but also a lot of traffic from people coming off the sea link. The hospital is divided into many different floors and departments. We have people working here around the clock in shifts. It can get very hectic in the lobby with families coming in and out and ambulances arriving. We have a lot of different wards, from general ones to more specific units. The staff is always on the move, carrying files or pushing carts. It’s a big operation, so things have to be kept in a certain order or it becomes a mess. We have a cafeteria for the visitors and a large parking area, though it often fills up fast. Even though it is a big place, we try to keep track of the details for every person who stays with us. It's a busy atmosphere every single day, and the nights are often just as active as the mornings. We see people from all over the city, not just from Bandra. The elevators are almost always full, so many of us just take the stairs if we aren't going too far. You can see the sea from some of the higher windows, which is a nice break from the white walls and fluorescent lights. It’s a major landmark in the neighborhood.
