Laxmi Electroplaters

Down on S V Road, inside the Singh Compound in Jageshwari West, you can find us at Gala No B 72. It’s an industrial area, so it’s always busy with trucks and people moving things around. Our place, Laxmi Electroplaters, is where we do all the metal coating. We have these big tanks for the plating process, and the smell of chemicals is just something you get used to after a week. It’s not the cleanest job in the world, but it’s what we know how to do. We take metal parts that look old or dull and give them a new surface. Most of our work comes from the other workshops around Jageshwari. They drop off a crate of bolts or brackets, and we get to work. The floor is always a bit wet from the rinsing, so we have to wear heavy boots. It’s just a small team of us here. We don’t have a secretary or a waiting room. If you want to talk, you just come to the door of the gala and shout over the noise of the machines. We’ve been at this spot for years and the walls are stained from the steam. It’s hard work, especially when it’s hot outside and the tanks are bubbling away. But we like the routine of it. We finish one batch, move it to the drying rack, and start the next. That’s how the day goes by for us.
