You’ll find Labinst Consultants & Company in the basement of the Neelkanth Commercial Complex on N.G. Acharya Marg. It’s a bit of a maze down there in the basement, but once you find number 10, that’s us. The air conditioning is always humming because it gets a bit stuffy without windows. We have shelves full of files and binders that go back years, and the desks are usually piled high with reports. Chembur is a busy area, so there’s always something happening outside, even if we can’t see it from the basement. Our work involves a lot of reading and checking figures, so it’s mostly a quiet office. Sometimes we have clients come in for meetings, and we have to clear off the main table so there’s a place for them to sit. We’ve been in this building for quite a while now and we know the security guards and the other shop owners pretty well. It’s not a fancy corporate headquarters with glass walls. It’s a place where we drink a lot of tea and try to make sense of complicated paperwork. We don’t have a big staff, just a few of us who have been doing this for a long time. It’s a steady job that keeps us busy from Monday to Saturday without much of a break in between.
