Kalpataru Marmo Stone

Our place is Gala No. 7 in the Godiwala Compound on Azad Road. It’s right across from the fire brigade in Vile Parle East. You hear the sirens every now and then, which keeps things interesting. The compound is a bit old, and our space is filled with all sorts of stone pieces. We have everything from big slabs to small scraps that people use for little jobs. It’s not a very big area, so we have to be careful how we stack everything. My family has been working with stone for a long time. We aren't interested in being the biggest company in Mumbai. We just want to make sure the people who come to us get what they’re looking for. It’s a lot of manual labor, moving the heavy pieces and making sure they don’t tip over. The dust is everywhere, on the desks and on the samples. That’s just part of the job. People who live nearby know us as the stone guys across from the fire station. We talk to everyone who walks in, whether they want one tile or a whole truckload. There’s no pressure here. We just show you the stone, tell you what it costs, and let you figure it out. It’s a practical way to run a business. Most of our day is spent handling the logistics of getting stone delivered to customers.
