Joy Machine Works is tucked away in Gala No. 6 inside the Ladi Compound. If you know Sakinaka, you know how crowded and lively Kherani Road can be. We are right off Durga Mandir Road, which is a busy little spot in Andheri East. Most of our day is spent around grease and heavy metal parts. It’s a small space, so we have to be organized, or we’d never find anything. We do a lot of repair work and custom parts for various machines. People bring in things that are broken or need a bit of tweaking, and we see what we can do. It is not a high-tech lab; it is a traditional machine shop with oily floors and the smell of cutting fluid in the air. We’ve seen the neighborhood change quite a bit over the years, but our little gala stays pretty much the same. The guys here have tough hands and don’t talk much while they’re focused on a task. We don’t have fancy brochures or a front desk. You just walk in and talk to whoever isn't holding a tool at that moment. It’s how we have always operated. Sometimes the traffic in Sakinaka makes getting materials delivered a real pain, but we work around it. We just focus on the machines in front of us and try to do right by the people who come to us for help. It gets loud and hot, but it is home for us.
