Harpal Food

Down in Khar West things are a bit different than the rest of the city. We are situated on New CG Road. It is a road that sees a lot of traffic and dust. Harpal Food is where we spend most of our waking hours. We deal with a lot of grains and spices. The bags are heavy and we have to move them around every morning. The floor is concrete and we keep it as clean as we can. Sometimes the delivery trucks block the entrance and we have to go out and talk to the drivers. It is a lot of manual work. My hands usually smell like coriander or cumin by the end of my shift. We do not have a big office or anything like that. Just a small desk in the corner with a lot of papers and a calculator. The fans hum all day long to keep the air moving so it does not get too stuffy. New CG Road gets very bright in the afternoon sun. We pull down the shutters a bit to keep the heat out. We have been here for a while now and the neighbors know us. We do not spend money on big signs. The name is just painted on the wall. We focus on getting the orders ready for the day. It is a lot of packing and weighing. You get used to the routine. Some days are longer than others. We just handle it one bag at a time.
