Our shop is in Goregaon West, at Shakti Niwas near the station. It’s shop number 3. Being so close to the station means we get a lot of people just passing through, especially in the mornings and evenings when the trains are packed. We run Griha Vastu Bhandar, where we keep all sorts of household and Vastu items. The shop is quite narrow, so we have to be very organized with how we stack things on the shelves. It’s always a bit of a squeeze when more than three people are inside at once. We’ve got everything from small copper items to larger pieces for the home. The fans are always going, but it still gets warm when the crowd builds up. We don't have a computer system for everything; we still write out many of our receipts by hand in a big ledger book. Sometimes we lose the pen and have to hunt for it under a pile of papers. It’s a friendly place, though. We talk to the neighbors from the shops on either side while we wait for the next customer. The street noise is constant, with the sound of the trains and the announcements from the platform drifting over. We don’t try to be a fancy boutique. We’re just a local bhandar providing what the community needs for their homes. Most people know us by now because we have been here so long.
