Gautami Interior

I work out of Room No 3 in Kashmir Chawl, which is in the Makra area of Malad East. This is where Gautami Interior is based. It is a small space, but it fits all my tools and some samples of wood and paint. I spend a lot of time visiting sites around Malad, checking on how the cupboards are being built or if the wall paint is the right shade. Interior work is messy. There is always dust from the sanding and the smell of polish. I try to keep things moving so the house owners can move back in quickly. The chawl is a lively place, always voices and people moving about. It can be a bit cramped when we have a lot of materials arriving. I handle the planning and the workers myself. It is better that way because I can see exactly what is happening. People around here know me for doing simple, solid work that lasts. I don't go for those overly expensive designs you see in magazines. I prefer stuff that is practical for everyday living in a city like Mumbai. Malad East has its own pace, and I've gotten used to it over the years. Sometimes the traffic makes getting to a client's place a real headache. But that is just life here. My phone is usually ringing with someone asking about a kitchen remodel or a new bed frame. It keeps me on my toes. I'm just a local guy trying to do good work for the neighbors.
