Flamengo Delicatessen

We are over at Malad West 3, right where the street gets a bit narrow near the corner. It is a deli, so there is always the smell of cheese and cold cuts in the air. The fridge hums quite loudly, which was annoying at first but now we do not even notice the sound anymore. We spend a lot of time slicing things and wrapping them up in that wax paper that sticks to your fingers. Some days are really quiet and we just stand around talking about the cricket score or what we are having for dinner. Other days, it is like everyone in Malad decided they needed a sandwich at the exact same time. We try to keep the display case looking decent, but by five in the afternoon, it usually looks like a mess in there. The floor is old tile and it has got a few cracks near the counter where people stand to pay. We have not gotten around to fixing those yet. It is just a regular shop. We do not have any fancy uniforms or anything, just some aprons that have seen better days. The sink in the back leaks a little bit if you do not turn the handle all the way to the right. It is one of those things you just get used to when you work in a place like this. We just open up, do our work, and head home.
