Canon Marbles

Our shop is right opposite the Sai Baba Temple in Malad East. You cannot miss it because we have all the stone slabs leaning against the outside walls. We deal in marbles and some types of tiles for floors. It is very heavy work. We spend the whole day moving these big pieces around so that customers can see the patterns in the light. Most of the time our clothes are covered in that white stone dust. That is just part of the trade we are in. We have a small corner in the back with a table where we do our accounts. It is not a fancy showroom with air conditioning or glass doors. We have two big fans that just blow the hot air around. People come in looking for stuff for their new kitchens or bathroom floors. We show them what we have sitting in the yard. If it is not here, we see if we can get it from the warehouse. The temple across the road makes it a nice peaceful spot in the early mornings. We usually start quite early to get the loading done before it gets too hot. Dealing with marble means you have to be very careful not to chip the edges while moving them. We use old trucks for the deliveries. Sometimes the loading takes longer than we thought it would. We just take it as it comes. It is a family business.
