Bombay Kiryana Industries

We are located on the second floor of Purushottam Niwas, which is house number 20 in Masjid Bunder West. It’s an old building, and the stairs are a bit steep if you aren't used to them. This area is always buzzing with activity, mostly people carrying heavy loads on their backs or pulling carts. We deal with kiryana items, which basically means all the dry staples you’d find in a kitchen. Spices, pulses, that kind of thing. Being on the second floor makes it a bit harder for deliveries, but we managed to make it work over the years. The rooms are filled with the smell of turmeric and cumin. It gets quite strong in the afternoons when it's hot. We mostly do wholesale work, so there are always ledgers lying around and people calling to check on prices. It’s a bit of an old-fashioned way of doing business. We don't have fancy office furniture, just some sturdy wooden desks and a lot of shelf space. Sometimes the building feels a bit cramped because of all the stock we keep. I’ve been coming to this same spot for years, and not much has changed in the neighborhood. The streets are still narrow and the work is still heavy. We just keep doing what we know. It’s a busy life here in the heart of the market district, but we wouldn't know what else to do with our time and effort every morning.
