Asia Metals and Ferro Alloys is up on the second floor at 44-C. P. Tank Road. If you know that part of town, it’s always packed. You have to navigate through the crowds and the delivery carts just to get to the entrance. Once you get up the stairs, it’s a bit quieter, but you can still hear the horns honking down on the street. It’s a small office, mostly just desks pushed together and shelves full of files and samples of different alloys. We spend a lot of time on the phone, talking to people about prices and when the next load is coming in. It’s not like those big corporate offices you see in the movies. We’ve got a ceiling fan that squeaks a bit and a window that looks out over the rooftops of other old buildings. Sometimes it gets a bit cramped when more than three people are in here at once. We’ve been here for a long time, so we know everyone on the street. The tea stall downstairs knows exactly how we like our chai. We don’t have any fancy brochures or anything. People usually just find us by word of mouth or because they’ve been coming to this area for years. It’s just how things work on CP Tank Road. You just keep going every day, looking at the stacks of paper and making sure the numbers add up.
